NZ Latte Art Championship 101 – breaking it down!

Thinking of entering the Latte Art Championship, but confused with the rules?

Here’s a very brief breakdown of the champs…

Before you compete you will get 15 mins to practice with the machine/milk and grinder.
Round One, part 1: This will take place back stage. You have 5 mins set up time, 10 mins to produce 1 cup with art of your choosing to be photographed for the judges. This is to be served in your own vessel and can be etched or free poured. You can make as many as you want, but only 1 cup is to be presented to be photographed. Bind Judging of the photos will take place later.  Please ensure you bring your own cup/vessel.
Round One, part 2: This will take place on stage. You have 5 mins set up time, 6 mins to present 2 free pour lattes and 2 designer lattes. The 2 designer lattes can include etching and surface decoration. The drinks of each set must be identical to each other i.e. 2 identical free poured tulips and 2 identical etched pandas. Please note in this round you must supply a photo of each of the designs you are serving to the judges. All cups provided by sponsors-more details below!
The top 6 competitors after round one will move to on to the final.
Final: This will take place on stage. You will have 5 mins set up time, 8 mins to present 2 free pour lattes, 2 designer lattes and 2 free pour macchiatos. As in round one part 2, the drinks must be identical to each other and again you must supply a photo of each of the designs you are serving. All cups provided by sponsors-more details below.
Easy!….
What do you need to bring?
Just your jugs and any etching tools. All competitors must use the provided coffee, milk and machinery. Failure to do this will result in disqualification. This championship does not require any additional table settings or music and points will be deducted from your score if you choose to bring any. Good customer service to the judges is still important though and points are awarded for this.
This championship is all about pouring great latte art! So keep practicing, read your rules and regulations and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions: emma@nzsca.org 021 415 810
