The Barista – Ahmed Osman

A barista at Prefab in Wellington, Ahmed has been in the business for six years, find out more about him here
What is your earliest coffee related experience? Trying traditional pan roasted Ethiopian espresso.
When  did you first get working in coffee? I’ve been making coffee for 6years and it started out as just a job but has developed in to a passion of mine. I enjoy making coffees.
What led you to becoming a barista? Having a passion and love for coffee and people.
What is the best part of your job? Making great coffee and meeting new people. And having a laugh with Rusi.
Talk us through a typical work day A typical day at Prefab is making good quality coffee for our customers.
What are your roles outside of making coffee? Outside of work I’m a father, who enjoys photography and film.
What is your favourite brew method and/or coffee origin and why? My favourite brew method Chemex because the coffee is a lot purer and extracted precisely. I don’t have a specific favourite coffee origin as I enjoy all origins.
Tulip or rosetta? Rosetta (not cool enough for Tulip)
What would be your dream ‘coffee experience’? To visit different plantations around the world.
Do you have a ‘coffee crush’? My colleagues, in particular, Jeff, Paddy and Rusi who between them have over 20 years of experience in making coffee. A world of knowledge at my fingertips.
