Winner of Best Newcomer – Kenneth Te
Twelve of our competitors were eligible for Best Newcomer. The winner of this award was presented with $2000 cash, a trophy and hopefully the desire to come back and compete next year! Kenneth Te from Society Coffee in Auckland and eventual third place winner was the recipient of this award. Congratulations Ken!
‘People’s Choice’ Johnny Leung
This year we decided to award ‘People’s Choice’ where you could vote for your favourite Barista. The phenomenal responses from the public, customers and support crews of these barista cemented the fact that they are all champions and ambassadors for the coffee industry.
The winner Johnny Leung was announced as the winner on Saturday 2 February before the announcement of the top six finalists at the Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Championship.
He received a sweet trophy, a set of Tajimi cups from Acme & Co, some cool Upper Hutt goodies and bragging rights of course.
Megan Turnball had nominated Johnny and won herself a t-shirt and limited edition Acme & Co mug.
