What was your first introduction to coffee? When I was young my Dad would ask me to make him a cup of coffee with four sugars inside of it haha! On my way to giving it to him, I would have a sneaky sip!

Why do you want to compete? I like to push myself outside my comfort zone! I think it’s a great way to accelerate learning and grow!
Where do you hope to be in five years’ time? I would love to own a cute coffee shop by day and a cocktail bar by night!
What’s something you take from competitions into your everyday work life? Professionalism and upholding high standards when serving coffee!
What gets you fired up? Mean people!! Really no need for it
What are you addicted to? I like mugs!! Especially pink mugs! I have quite the selection! I am also addicted to scrolling through Pinterest and looking at interior design

What was your first introduction to coffee? My first ever introduction to coffee was during middle school. I stole a packet of instant-coffee mix from my parent’s stash when they weren’t home. I instantly got hooked onto it!

Why do you want to compete? To showcase the importance of hospitality, and to observe the latest innovations in the industry.
Where do you hope to be in five years’ time? Hopefully passing down my accumulated knowledge to the next generation of coffee professionals.
What’s something you take from competitions into your everyday work life? To name a few, the professionalism, innovations, and the attention to details.
What gets you fired up? Witnessing the success of other people amps me up! It motivates me to try even harder.

What was your first introduction to coffee? Probably my dad’s morning cuppa. He always has a pot ready in the morning.
What’s in your cup? At home, I enjoy espressos or v60 from Wellington roasters. I never stick to one bean or blend because there’s too much to discover. I also never drink the coffee I roast at home because I like to keep in touch with what others are doing.
Why do you want to compete? There’s nothing like a competition to stay interested and challenge yourself. It’s also a great way to see up close what the best are doing.
Where do you hope to be in five years’ time? I hope I’ll still be working at Ripe, the job I have right now is the one I’ve always wanted.
What’s something you take from competitions into your everyday work life? Tonnes of humility. I’ve had big ups and downs so far, in competition and in life, so I try to remember that there is so much I don’t know but there are a lot of people out there with that knowledge and they are often only a phone call away. Competitions foster a spirit of community and I wouldn’t be here without it.
What gets you fired up? When I brew a really good cup several times in a row, I get a serious high. Also when I find new reference material to explore, it gives me a boost of energy.
What are you addicted to? Social media (yeah, I know).
Person in coffee who inspires you: Sooo many. Kim Boyd was one of the first that got me curious about what’s beyond the daily café grind. James Hoffmann’s bad coffee products reviews keep me alive. Scott Rao is controversial, but his books and classes made me a better roaster and barista.

What was your first introduction to coffee? – When I was 13 I started drinking my parent’s European Dark Roast on filter back in Germany. Not my cup of coffee anymore.
