New Zealand Talent Shines on the World Stage
We have a brand-new reason to celebrate our coffee culture! Auckland barista Hiroko Hanna Teramoto from Mojo Coffee has been crowned Grand Champion at the prestigious MONIN Coffee Creativity Cup Finals in Kuala Lumpur, competing against baristas from 14 countries across the region.
The MONIN Cup is a global competition that challenges young baristas and mixologists to push the boundaries of flavour, artistry, and imagination. Hanna’s winning creation, Pink Alchemy, was inspired by her father’s 80th birthday celebrated under cherry blossoms — an occasion she couldn’t attend in person but holds close to her heart. Crafted with MONIN Rose and Cherry Blossom syrups, miso, kefir water, and espresso, her drink brought memory and emotion to life in a cup.
This incredible win comes just 16 days after Hanna claimed the National Barista Champion title at the NZSCA Barista Championships. With little time to rest or prepare, she admits she was “the most surprised person in the room” when announced as Champion.
MONIN NZ Brand Manager Lisa Walker said:
“The MONIN Cup is about inspiring the next generation. We’re thrilled to see Hanna showcase her skills and passion to the world. This is a huge moment for both her and the NZ coffee community.”
A huge congratulations to Hanna, your talent, strength, and creativity are an inspiration to us all.
