We welcome to our Association the team from Espresso Ninja in Wellington. We chat with Martin Caughley, the Director of Espresso Ninja 2011 Ltd about all things coffee machines.
Tell us about your company?
Espresso Ninja is New Zealand’s most passionate and experienced team of espresso equipment masters! We cover every aspect of the espresso machinery industry, including equipment sales, servicing, repairs, customization, as well as spare parts and accessories, for both the domestic and the commercial markets. Yes, this means we’re a happily busy team! We are a wholly independent New Zealand owned company with a current staff count of 10, and we operate out our very own superb 300m2 workshop plus showroom, based centrally in the Wellington region for easy access to all customers.
How long have you been trading?
Espresso Ninja started trading in 2007, then, in mid-2011, myself and my wife, Jenny took over the reins as owners of the company.
Tell us about your role?
I own and direct Espresso Ninja, and I am proud to see how far we have come after all the hard years of graft helping customers with their espresso machinery.
What is the best part of your job?
Dealing with the many genuinely appreciative customers as we meet their requirements.
What is the biggest challenge your business faces?
Keeping everyone happy, all at once!
What is your favourite part of the industry?
We are helping people with a product, that, ultimately, brings them daily enjoyment – what more could you ask for?
What is the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry since your company has been operating?
The sheer growth of the coffee industry in New Zealand
What change would you like to see?
Nothing I can think of, it is changing all the time.
What would be your dream ‘coffee experience’?
A trip to an exotic coffee growing location and seeing the whole preparation process firsthand. I can never get over the enormous amount of effort put into the coffee beans before they finally arrive in our cups as a beautiful espresso!
Name two coffee legends would you want to have coffee with and why? What would you drink?
To be honest, once again, I would like to meet, and share a coffee with, the humble people at the very beginning of the coffee growing process, without whom the ‘legends’ would not exist!
Anything else you’d like to add:
We love visitors! Please feel free to come and pop in any time if you haven’t already, no matter what aspect of the coffee industry you belong to.
Thanks, Martin! You can find the Ninja team at Unit 3B/33 Kaiwharawhara Rd, Kaiwharawhara, Wellington, 6035
