Date is now confirmed for March (formerly advertised as late February) because of the climate change situation in Indonesia, this month is better for witnessing the harvest.
Monday 10th – Saturday 15th March
Exact details to come, but draft schedule will look like:
Monday
* Arrive Medan (morning or noon)
* Visit some exporter companies in Medan (incl. coffee cupping)
* Stay overnight in Medan (Hotel: Aston / Swiss Bell)
Tuesday
* Start to Lake Toba area (+/- 5hours by car)
* Arrive Lake Toba around 2pm
* Visit 2-3 plantation / farmers group
* Stay overnight in Lake Toba (Hotel: Ina Parapat)
(The hotel is right on Lake Toba, available for swim / take a boat to sightseeing Lake Toba)
Wednesday
* Visit around 4 plantation / farmers group
(On the way back to Medan via different side from the way Medan-Lake Toba)
* Stay overnight in Medan
Thursday
* Flight to Takengon (Gayo)
* Arrive Takengon around 11.30am
* Visit 2-3 plantation & farmers group / co-operatives
* Stay overnight in Takengon
Friday
* Visit 2 plantations & farmers group / co-operatives + sightseeing the city & lake
Saturday
* Flight back to Medan
Estimate trip costs: $900-1000 NZD based on six people travelling, including internal flights and transport, accommodation and food etc
(Please note: International flights – New Zealand to Medan, Indonesia are not included in cost – estimated at $1700 – $2,000 NZD – to be organised separately from trip)
