Emma Markland Webster is the owner of the New Zealand School of Coffee, certified SCA Lab. She has been in coffee for some time, over two decades… During this time she has worked alongside the SCAA on their education platform and has been instrumental in building the NZ platform.

Masako Yamamoto is the Training Manager for Atomic Coffee Roasters, in Auckland, New Zealand. She has been working within the coffee industry for the last decade. She currently works across the board with roasters, baristas, wholesale customers and the public to help educate and quality control brewed coffee. She has entered the New Zealand Latte Art Championship and Barista Championship and now enjoys judging and coaching competitors.

Alan Bruce, Flight Coffee, Wellington.

Alan Bruce has over 20 years of experience in hospitality, and nearly 10 years working specifically with coffee, as a barista, trainer, and roaster. He has competed in barista championships at both a national and international level. And won the NZ Cup Tasters Championship twice.

Michael Stevens, Ozone Coffee Roasters, New Plymouth.

Instantly drawn to the role a Barista plays in this wonderful chain of the coffee industry, Michael made the conscious decision to pursue his passion further.  After working alongside some of the most inspiring individuals in NZ and the UK, his interest was further spurred at every turn, with a personal achievement of taking runner-up at the 2017 NZ Cup Tasters Championship.  Michael is currently working as a Barista Trainer/Account Manager for Ozone Coffee Roasters. He continues to be inspired by countless individuals every day, furthering his own knowledge which he wishes to pass onto others as they have him.

David Green, L’affare, Wellington.

David is the Coffee Specialist with L’affare in Wellington.

David has been working within the New Zealand coffee industry for over 20 years. He has participated in the New Zealand Barista Championship and has been involved as a judge in the Championship since 2007.

David was certified as a World Judge in 2011, and have judged at a number of World Events since. He has also been heavily involved in the professional development opportunities provided by the association – having completed both level one and level two barista certification, IDP and Specialized Instructor programs.

Over the years David has witnessed first-hand the development and evolution of our industry. David believes that the formulation of the NZCRA – Now NZSCA has been a key influence on this. The support and hosting of events, across all aspects (Competitions, Professional Development, and Community) has been key to this.

Originally from Italy, Chiara has been in many roles in the hospitality industry. Over the past 15 years, she has been exploring the culture of coffee from Italy to Australia and New Zealand.
Chiara is now a barista trainer at Switch Espresso Roastery in Christchurch and what fills her heart is the opportunity to pass on to people the intricacies and beautiful “art”  of making coffee.

It’s safe to say that Hospitality runs through Sue’s blood. She has worked within the Industry for the last 19 years, you name it she has probably done it.

Over the last 8 years, Sue has specifically worked within the coffee industry, learning what goes on behind the scenes before it gets to the cafes and consumers! In that, Sue has come to realise that what she loves most is sharing her passion and knowledge of coffee with others. There’s no better feeling when training someone than seeing it ‘click’.
